Ministry of Science - MoS
During discussions about the formation of the United Earth Government, the question of merging science programs was brought up by Carlos Cardoza from Chile. The idea evolved into a world-wide scientific organization which could not only coordinate the science programs of allied nations but also regulate and veto laws for the safety of humans and the environment. The organization was named the Ministry of Science.
The Ministry stood toe to toe with the UEG. They maintained order in the sciences as well as protected human lives and the environment. Prominent scientists, engineers, and gifted individuals from around the world joined the Ministry. Technical and scientific problems already solved were proliferated throughout the UEG nations, rapidly raising the quality of life for millions, and soon billions of people. That progress convinced many of the holdout countries to join the UEG.
Despite the Ministry’s contributions to the world, the feature it is best known for is its reputation for being unhackable. The Ministry’s computer systems were top-to-bottom designed and built by a savant programmer named M.J. Smith. Ministry members are trained for months to use the system, which is said to be a revolutionary leap forward in programming. It is also a closely guarded, heavily encrypted secret.
M.J. Smith died alongside another once-in-a-lifetime mind, Albertus Schulze. The weight of their loss rippled throughout the Ministry. Smith’s death forced the Ministry to rapidly assign their most advanced users to study the system Smith created and become experts.
Despite the loss, the Ministry marches on, ever leading Humanity into a Utopia.
